Meta

Created Friday 13 June 2014

The intent of the alchemy system is that elixirs should be much more common than standard D&D potions, so that it is feasible to use them in every encounter.

  • Ingredients are cheap and plentiful.
  • Elixir cost is mainly controlled by the cost of the 'solvent', which scales with level.

As a guideline, potions should cost about 1/4th of the standard D&D potions and be about 4 times as common.

Balancing

A first level PC with 18 INT and basic equipment (no bonus) can have 4 ranks of Alchemy + 4 INT bonus for a minimum check of 8.

A 5th level PC with 24 INT (after enhancements) and +1/+1/+1 alchemy equipment can have 8 ranks of Alchemy, +7 INT bonus, and +3 equipment bonus for a check of 18-37.

A 10th level PC with 28 INT (after enhancements) and +2/+2/+2 alchemy equipment, can have 13 ranks, +9 INT bonus, +6 equipment bonus, for a check of 28-47.

A 15th level PC with 32 INT (after enhancements) and +3/+3/+3 alchemy equipment can have 18 ranks, +11 INT bonus, +9 equipment bonus, for a check of 38-57.

A 20th level PC with 36 INT (after enhancements) and +3/+3/+3 alchemy equipment can have 23 ranks, +13 INT bonus, +9 equipment bonus, for a check of 45-64.

5th: 18 - 37
10th: 28 - 47
15th: 38 - 57
